British auction house Christie’s is offering a virtual tour of David Gilmour‘s massive collection of guitars to be auctioned later this year in New York.
Christie’s revealed in January that more than 120 guitars from the Pink Floyd guitarist, singer and songwriter’s personal collection will go under the hammer, including his iconic “Black Strat.”
“When you’re young and starting off, there are all sorts of reasons for all sorts of guitars,” Gilmour said in a video ahead of the June auction. “You’re always looking for a new sound – being disorientated on an instrument often gives you a new inspiration.”
“That led me into becoming a bit of a collector – I never quite meant to become a collector of guitars, but that’s the way it panned out,” he added.
Gilmour said the money raised by the auction will go into his charitable foundation and be used to help do some good in this world.
