Summer Loving – Grease prequel release date, will it star John Travolta and the original cast and what will the movie be about?

FANS have gone wild over the news of a Grease prequel coming our way.

Here's the lowdown on what to expect from Summer Loving…

Will Summer Loving star John Travolta and the original cast?

It's unlikely that Summer Loving will star the original cast as it is meant to follow the young characters before the happenings of Rydell High – as we know and love the film.

The original movie will have a fresh new face for its prequel which means a whole new batch of young actors.

Though it's not entirely unreasonable to think that some of the original cast could pop up for a surprise appearance since many are still in the entertainment industry.

What will the movie be about?

The prequel to Grease is in development 41 years after the original film hit the big screen.

It has been reported that Summer Loving will follow what happened between lead characters Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson before they reunited at Rydell High School

The couple's initial summer fling is recounted in musical number Summer Nights, and it is believed that the prequel will follow this first meeting and their differing views on the romance.

Hollywood Reporter have reported that Paramount's division Paramount Players are taking charge of the production, with veteran writer John August enlisted to write the script.

Temple Hill will produce the film alongside Picturestart, which is run by Lionsgate executive-turned-producer Erik Feig.

What is the original Grease about?

Grease, released in 1978, starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as lead characters Danny and Sandy – high school teenagers who couldn't be more different.

Sandy is an Australian good girl virgin whereas promiscuous Danny is the coolest kid in the school, with the pair enjoying a summer romance before going their separate ways.

Danny is left mortified when Sandy shows up at his US high school and pulls his reputation into disrepute – and both characters end up making changes to their looks and attitudes before living happily ever after.
