Emmerdale viewers have been waiting for Maya (played by Louisa Clein) to be exposed for months now, and for 16-year-old Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) to get the justice he deserves.
Things didn’t quite unravel the way fans may have hoped during tonight’s episodes of the ITV soap however, as it was David Metcalfe’s (Matthew Wolfenden) ex Priya (Fiona Wade) who was the first to discover the truth.
Priya told Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) and Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) her sighting straight away, but there were mixed reactions from the group.
After a lengthy discussion and some off-camera secret moments viewers will have to wait another two weeks to see, Leyla seemed to turn deadly.
The wedding planner is Jacob’s biological mother on the ITV soap and has a complex relationship with her son, but it was clear in her eyes she would do whatever it took to keep him safe.
Yet the soap’s producers may have a totally different twist in mind – what if Priya ends up losing control and murdering Maya?
Tracy currently doesn’t have any children, but Priya has a young girl with David called Amba, so the gravity of Maya’s actions could end up hitting her more.
The Home Farm businesswoman appeared truly devastated when she realised what was happening between Jacob and Maya, and was upset over the teenager’s welfare.
But it was actually Leyla who insisted on keeping the developments from David at first, insisting Jacob’s future and schoolwork needed to come first.
Leyla was seething as she waited for Maya outside the nightclub, but offered the sinister teacher a ride home in Priya’s car.
The night’s not over yet
In a foreboding tone, Leyla warned: “The night’s not over yet.”
Puzzled by Leyla’s demeanour, Maya joked about the drama of the evening, but was still unaware the three women were planning a major confrontation.
Spotting Tracy in the car – who Maya saw earlier kissing David in a drunken liplock – the teacher gave a big sigh.
“Oh this is gonna be a fun journey,” Maya joked halfheartedly, and Leyla was cold as ice in return.
“She’s the least of your problems darlin’,” the mother-of-one spat, and the episode ended on a cliffhanger.
On the other hand, all three women could be responsible for what happens next to Maya – or the confrontation could end up with no injuries.
Emmerdale’s Big Night Out trailer hints otherwise as Maya can be seen cradling her head covered in blood on the floor.
In another brief clip Leyla can be seen losing control and punching a mirror in anger, but is it all a red herring to throw viewers off the scent?
Also following tonight’s episodes, Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) is raped by a mystery person, and while the truth about their identity won’t be revealed for another two weeks there could have been a vital clue as to who the perpetrator was.
Emmerdale continues tomorrow at 7pm on ITV.
