A shopper has criticised Boohoo after she bought size 14 trousers that barely fit around one of her thighs.
Student Ellie Bewick, 19, from Yorkshire, usually slips into a size 14 ordered the black £30 trousers in a large – the retailer’s equivalent of a size 14-16 – confident that they would fit.
However when they arrived she was shocked to discover the waistband was so small it barely fit around one of her thighs.

Ellie said: ‘When I took them out of the bag, my mum questioned whether I had picked up the right size or not because they were so small.’

The customer took to Twitter to call out the retailer, accusing it of setting unattainable body standards for ‘young, impressionable’ girls.
She wrote: ‘If you think this is in ANY way, shape or form a size 14 then you are actually delusional what kind of standards are you setting for young, impressionable girls when this absolute monstrosity barely fits round ONE of my thighs.’

The black Chain Trim Cargo Trousers are designed to give a ‘relaxed’ silhouette, meaning they should be more forgiving than a slim or straight leg fit.
Boohoo sizing information reveals their size 14-16 is the equivalent to a large and is designed for 31in-33in waist.
Ellie, who bought the trousers in September, has a 34in waist.
The teenager believes all retailers should introduce standardised sizing and that a 34in waist is a realistic measurement for a size 14.

A number of retailers have been called out over the discrepancy in sizing in recent months, with many disappointed shoppers sharing snaps online.
Ellie told how she contacted Boohoo with her complaint and said the retailer was quick to offer her a refund. She was also given a £5 voucher to spend online.
