Megan Barton-Hanson has suggested that Mike Thalassitis was using drink and drugs before his tragic death.
The Love Island star's body was discovered hanging in a North London park near his childhood home on Saturday.
He was 26.
Megan, who says she was painted as a pantomime villain like Mike was, wrote about his untimely death, drawing comparison between him and her brother, Kurtis, who suffered a mental breakdown last year.
The reality star, who recently split from boyfriend Wes Nelson , who she met on the show last year, said she broke down in tears when she learned about Mike's death.
Megan 24, said she was devastated at the thought of a young man with his whole life ahead of him ending it so abruptly.
And she explained why even though she didn't know him personally, his death felt "incredibly close to home".
Writing for The Sun , she said: "My brother, Kurtis, is only 15 months younger than Mike and last year he suffered a mental breakdown which saw him reach rock bottom.
"Like Mike he couldn’t cope with life and turned to drink and drugs to help numb the pain. Me, mum and dad tried everything we could to help him – we took him to A&E, we contacted mental health services but each time we were told that unless he was a threat to himself or others there was nothing anyone could do.
"Instead all we could do was watch as his life spiralled out of control."
Megan says her brother lost his three businesses, his car and his money in quick succession and that everyone who loved him felt like they were waiting for a phone call telling them the worst had happened.
Megan said she told Wes, while they were still together, that she was terrified Kurtis was going to "do something stupid".
She said that her brother thankfully managed to turn everything around, although it's still a "work in progress".
She said watching what he went through reminded her of the way men "keep all their feelings locked in until finally it explodes".
Mike was found dead on Saturday in a park near his childhood home in Edmonton, North London.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to a park near Latymer Way, N9 at 09:28hrs on Saturday, 16 March to reports of a man found hanged.
"Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a man, aged in his 20s, deceased.
"At this early stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious. The man's next of kin have been informed. A file will be prepared for the coroner."
