Cardi B Says She Turned Down "A Lot Of Money" To Perform At The Super Bowl

In an interview with the Associated Press (via The Hollywood Reporter), upcoming Pepsi spokeshoethrower Cardi B got into her reasoning as to why she turned down today’s Super Bowl halftime gig. “They wanted me to share a stage with Maroon 5. Need I say more?” wasn’t a quote that popped up during the interview to the surprise of myself and other readers.

Cardi says that the NFL was willing to drop a lot of cash on her that they would normally reserve for trying to cover up deadly brain diseases killing their former players.

“I got to sacrifice a lot of money to perform. But there’s a man who sacrificed his job for us.”

Cardi is, of course, referring to perma-benched NFL player Colin Kaepernick.

Cardi also says that she made her on-again-off-again husband Offset frowny when she turned the NFL down. But a Pepsi shiller’s got to do what a Pepsi shiller’s got to do.

“My husband, he loves football. His kids play football. It’s really hard for him. … He really wants to go to the Super Bowl, but he can’t go to the Super Bowl, because he’s got to stand for something,”

“You have to sacrifice that,” she added. “I got to sacrifice a lot of money to perform. But there’s a man who sacrificed his job for us, so we got to stand behind him.”

We hear you, Cardi. But what about you performing Super Bowl-related concerts and parties this week in Atlanta? (Let’s not get into the Pepsi ad.)

Cardi’s somewhat convoluted reasoning is that it’s ok to take NFL money some of the time just not for a halftime show? This is confusing. Why not just admit you think Adam Levine is lame and you don’t want to have to stomp out onto the stadium stage and rap a few lines while causing all of the Caucasian housewives in the Midwest creaming their mom jeans over the Maroon 5 singer to ask aloud “who’s that black girl with Adam Levine?”

“I hear people saying like ‘Oh, y’all are saying all this stuff about the Super Bowl, but you’re doing all these parties,’” she said. “And it’s like, well, if the NFL could benefit off from us, then I’m going to benefit off y’all. Y’all make the most money off our people. Why am I not going to take advantage of y’all and take money from y’all too? Because of y’all, we are getting these parties. OK, thank you.”

*shrugs* Ok, Cardi. But won’t someone think of poor Offset? Dude embarrasses himself by going along with your “bum-rush the stage and beg for my forgiveness” stunt and you’re going to deny him Super Bowl tickets afterward? That’s cold.
